Here’s an easy guide to Charlottesville wineries with restaurants on-site. It’s true many wineries have cases where you can purchase cheese and meat snacks. However, a few vineyards in our area have restaurants with menus offering great lunch or dinner options. Make your next Cedar Spring Inn getaway extra special by incorporating one or several of these wineries in your schedule.
Charlottesville Wineries: Country Fine Dining
The most complete restaurant, offering two to four courses for either lunch or dinner, is Palladio at Barboursville Vineyards. Palladio was opened almost 20 years ago by Barboursville Vineyards so they could highlight their excellent wine offerings. The atmosphere at Palladio is reminiscent of a European country restaurant. For example, white tablecloths and fine china and crystal establish a very special ambience.
Palladio restaurant is open for lunch from 12:00noon to 2:30pm on Wednesday through Sunday. It is also open for dinner on Friday and Saturday from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, offering two, three or four courses with or without wine pairings.
Barboursville Vineyards also has a more casual option for food and wine pairing called Library 1821. Here you can experience some of Barboursville’s select vintages with culinary pairings. Library 1821 is open on Friday from 12:00noon until 7:00pm, and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12:00noon until 5:00pm. Barboursville Vineyards and both Palladio Restaurant and Library 1821 are just 13 miles from Cedar Spring Inn. You can check out Barboursville Vineyards, Palladio and Library 1821 at http://www.bbvwine.com.
Charlottesville Wineries: Farm to Table Small Plates
Early Mountain Vineyard is the second option near Cedar Spring Inn with a beautiful dining area. Overlooking the foothills, this is the perfect spot for a casual lunch or early light dinner. For example, the menu features a selection of creative small plates which utilize seasonal items from local farms. Menu offerings change with the season. The tasting room and dining area are open every day except Tuesday from 11:00am until 5:00pm (unless there is a special event, please check the web page at http://www.earlymountain.com to be certain of schedule). Early Mountain Vineyard is 17 miles north of Cedar Spring Inn. If you are coming from the North, this is a great spot for an early dinner before arriving at Cedar Spring Inn.
Charlottesville Wineries: Soups, Salads, Sandwiches
Trump Winery Tasting Room is the third local winery with an excellent lunch or early dinner menu. If you are visiting Monticello while staying at Cedar Spring Inn, make Trump Winery a stop before or after your visit to Monticello. For instance, plan on having a leisurely lunch or early dinner from the Trump Winery menu of soup, shareable boards, sandwiches or salads. Trump Winery Tasting Room is 26 miles southeast of Cedar Spring Inn. You can find the menu on their web page http://www.trumpwinery.com; click on Tasting Room/Visit us/Seasonal menu.
Charlottesville Wineries: Appetizers, Dinners, Cooking Classes
Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard is the fourth local winery where you will be able to enjoy food with your tasting. The tasting menu features a variety of shared plates and appetizers (but cannot be previewed on-line). In addition, there are some meal options for groups of four or more which must be reserved in advance. On the web page you will also find a schedule of cooking classes held during the week; tickets must be purchased in advance. Ticket prices range from $95 to $125/person which includes hands-on cooking instruction followed by a group meal. Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard is located 26 miles south of Cedar Spring Inn.
